Flying Panda
Panda bear, Panda bear, what do you see? I see a little boy, looking mildly apprehensive, riding on top of me. But, it might just be the bee-bop music causing some consternation.

From the Dreams of Finn
It was after 11:00 pm and Finn was stirring in his crib..."basketball," he shouts, and drifts back to sleep.

Fun at Grandma and Grampa's
Finn slept over at Grandma and Grampa's house this past weekend. In my opinion, these overnights are the ultimate win-win-win situation. Finn clearly wins as he is doted on and spoiled by G and G. My parents never seem to tire of our cute little Finley, so they would say they win. Meanwhile, even though Jason and I missed the little boy, we thoroughly enjoyed our Finn-free time, managing to take a shopping trip to Ikea, go out for dinner and a movie, sleep in Sunday morning, and go out to a leisurely brunch.

From the Mind of Finn: Ten Thoughts Indicating an Additction to Balls
10. One of these days I'll figure out how to get those big, red, heavy balls at Target into the cart.
9. Here, Calvert, here's a ball. Don't you think this is the best? (While holding a ball up to the cat's nose.)
8. Here, Zoe (Grandma and Grampa's cat), here's a ball! Don't you think it is so cool?
7. Here, Bobby (next door neighbor's dog), here's a ball! Isn't it great?!
6. I cannot wait to get out of the car so that I can walk up and down the sidewalk and look at the basketball and soccer ball in the neighbor's yard!
5. Yeah, I see that basketball hoop again (huge smile), there must be a basketball nearby!
4. I don't think I feel comfortable leaving the house today without my soccer ball.
3. Mama, please pass me the "balls section" of the newspaper. I need to study it while I eat my banana.
2. Do these balls know how much I love them? I better kiss them some more just to make sure.
1. I know my belly looks like I ate a soccer ball, but I swear it is my natural shape. I've tried, but none of my balls will fit in my mouth!

Focus: A New Skill
It started with the top of the electric toothbrush. A few weeks ago Finn sat on the bathroom floor for a good 15 minutes studying the odd little device, taking the top on and off, twisting and turning the various pieces, examining it from every angle. It is hard to describe other than to say he was so absorbed and focused, like a little engineer, trying to figure the toothbrush out. I had never seen him fixate on something with such interest and for so long.
Our little potato boy spends most of his time zigging and zagging around the house, barely still for a minute. Throwing a ball, kicking a ball, laying on the ground to launch a ball, hunting for the remote, asking to watch Elmo, putting his little animals in a pitcher, pressing buttons, building towers, reading books, following Calvert, spinning, dancing, jumping. All without much pause.
Yet now there have been a few pauses. A few days ago he was engrossed in buckling his high-chair buckles, with Grampa's help. He has begun to have the patience to piece together his giant Legos. His cars and their toy garage have regained his interest. Yesterday he sat and examined a truck, especially interested in the switches that make it go backwards and forwards.
Finn's beloved balls converged with stickers in a few moments of focus this morning!

Flying to New Heights
Climbing is the new thing around here. Tonight I was making dinner, which is a rarity in and of itself, and went rummaging through the freezer for some frozen vegetables. I turned back around and was greeted by Finn's I-am-doing-something-I-know-I'm-not-supposed-to-do-and-I-am-VERY-happy-about-it-grin of glee. In the time it took me to find the bag of frozen vegetables, he had managed to pull himself onto the chair, stand up, and survey the world around him with the pride of a hiker having reached his summit.
After snatching him and returning him to the ground, I asked him to climb up again so that I could both snap this picture and discover just how he managed to do it. Apparently he has fantastic upper body strength because it was all about pulling. Since I was standing there, he did ask for "help" this time around!
Tonight's climbing episode wasn't the first...Finn has recently been trying to and succeeding at scaling everything--storage boxes, his toys, and the bench in the foyer.
