Surprising Career Goals
Little Man is not into swimming lessons. After asking all summer long for swimming lessons, we finally go to our first couple of lessons and he will not even touch the water. He cries. The boy who was swimming in the deep end and attempting dives and doggy paddling practically across the pool back in June is anti-swmming lessons.
Just hours after today's failed lesson, he asks me, "Can I tell you what I want to be when I grow up?" Why yes, please, tell me! (How thrilled am I that boy #2 likes to talk and share, but I'll save that for another post.)
"When I grow up I want to be a swimming lesson teacher."
Does he notice the irony? I suppose not. A swimming lesson teacher. So, those who cannot do, teach?

Road Trip 2014: Day 1
Once again we are headed east, and then south, on our mega-road trip. Eighteen minutes into the trip Wylie asked, "When are we there, Mama?" He is singularly focused on getting to Sanibel and doesn't understand all this in-between nonsense like stopping for meals and the entire state of Pennsylvania. That's all right, he'll come around once he sees all the boys to play with in Philly.
In the meantime we are wavering between laughing at his beyond-cuteness--singing a mash-up of "Let it Go" and a Jesus song to himself while playing magna tiles--and crying over his self-taught whininess. Whether or not we make it to Sanibel may depend on how easily we are able to find a child-friendly muzzle along the way...

Last name
We told Wylie that the rectangular brown thing in his stir fry dinner was tofu. A minute or two later he asked, "What is its last name?" "Whose last name?" "To, what is his last name?" "You mean tofu?!"

Finn, Post-Christmas
Proud of Finn for working at and being patient with him new Christmas presents. The Spirograph takes some serious concentration. And he made the below Rainbow Loom ring without any help.
Missing Calvert Cat
Calvert cat died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Out of the blue. He seemed very sick Monday morning. I took him to the vet that afternoon and we left him at the animal hospital Monday night. I was optimistic, but he was too sick to bounce back.
Now, we miss him. I wake up in the morning wondering where he is. For weeks when I'd go to the freezer for ice cream, I would look for him to appear. Meanwhile, Wylie still thinks Calvert is sick and in the hospital.
We held a little memorial service for him, sending balloons up to heaven so Calvert would know we loved him. Finn said Calvert already knew we loved him. Calvert, we miss you and love you. You'll always be in our hearts.
